THE ELIZABETHAN THEATRE



Elizabeth I was a strong, resolute monarch who returned England to protestantisism and unified the nation. She was a fervent supporter of arts as well. In fact, during her reign there was a great deal of theatrical activity at Court and lots of public theatres were also built on the outskirts of London.


Theatre was a popular pastime that people of all walks of life attended.



Some of the most important playwrights come from Elizabethan era, including William Shakespeare.
