Jane Austen

Jane Austen is one of the most loved authors of all time. Her novels tell stories about the gentry and upper classes in the England of her time. She was born in the village of Steventon in Hampshire in 1775. She was one of eight children of a clergyman and grew up in a close-knit family. They moved to Bath when her father retired in 1801.
After her father's death, her family settled in Chawton. The years spent in Chawton, living in the house that is now a museum, were extremely productive. It was during this time that she wrote or revised her six novels.
Her first novel "Sense and Sensibility" appeared in 1811. Her following novel "Pride and Prejudice" received very favourable reviews.  Continue reading here.
